What is love? Most people associate love with feelings. The dictionary defines it as: "a strong and constant feeling of affection, dedication, or attachment to someone or something". It is how you feel about someone or something you enjoy. However, biblically love is an action, not a feeling. The greatest act of love ever was Jesus' death on the cross. His love for us compelled Him to lay down His life, so our relationship with God could be restored by His perfect sacrifice. Jesus' love wasn't a feeling, it was an action. It wasn't based on anything we had to offer Him. Romans 5:8 states, "But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." God loves us because we are His creation, not because we are worthy. There is nothing we can do to make Him love us more, and there is nothing we can do to make Him love us less. His love is perfect!
How do you show others you love them? Do you only love others when they are lovable? Jesus said, "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” (John 13:34-35). If you are a believer in Christ, you should be known for how you love others. First Corinthians 13:4-8 describes love in depth:

"Love is patient. Love is kind. Love does not envy, It does not boast. It is not proud. It does not dishonor others. It is not self-seeking. It is not easily angered. Love keeps no record of wrongs. Loves does not delight in evil but it rejoices in the truth. Love always protects, always trusts. Love never fails."
Love is serving others. It's overlooking faults and irritations. Love is having hard conversations with others to tell them the truth, so they can live a more Godly life. Love is controlling yourself when you get mad. Instead, pray for the person who made you mad. Love is not desiring to have what everyone else has, but being content. Love is self-sacrificing! It's putting others ahead of yourself.
Do you love others well? If not, make a decision to change. Day by day, minute by minute, seek God and He will give you the strength to love well. Read His Word, so you can understand more about God and what He desires for us as His children.
