How would you describe your emotions? In our current culture, most people identify with some level of stress, worry, anxiety, or even depression. Have you ever stopped to consider why so many are riddled with these feelings of hopelessness? Let's take a look at God's Word and see what He says about all these feelings.
We will start in Philippians 4:6, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." There are some key words in this scripture, the first one is ANYTHING. When God says do not be anxious about anything, He means just that. I don't know about you, but I fail at that on a daily basis. The next word that stands out to me is EVERY. He tells us in every situation we are to present our requests to Him. I love this verse because God doesn't just tell us what not to do, He tells us how to do it correctly. He says don't worry about anything because He's got it under control. The God of the Universe who knit you together in your mother's womb, has everything under control! The questions is do you believe that?

The Bible tells us not to worry or fear in several scriptures throughout the Bible. In Matthew 6:34 Jesus is giving the Sermon on the Mount. In this verse He says, "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." While we worry about tomorrow, today is wasting away. We will never get today back, so why waste it worrying about what might happen tomorrow. Another reason God does not want us to worry is because it shows a lack of trust in Him. If we believe God is sovereign (in control of everything), we cannot worry.
You might be thinking, "This sounds great, but how do I do that?" Well, God is gracious enough to tell us how to not worry. In Psalm 55:22, the psalmist writes, "Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken". Again in 1 Peter 5:7, the Bible says, "Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you". These verses are to encourage us to give our worry, fear, and anxiety to God who loves us deeply and wants to take care of us. Through prayer, you let Him know what is bothering you, and then you trust Him to provide what you need to deal with it.
Worry, fear, and anxiety are crippling people in our world today. Proverbs 12:25 states it best, "Anxiety weighs down the heart, but a kind word cheers it up." God does not want us to feel like this because it is not good for us or those who are around us. Our main purpose as Christians is to love God above all else and love others as ourselves. How well can we love God and others when we are filled with despair? God promises He will take care of us and strengthen us in Isaiah 41:10, "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."

When you trust God and surrender your life to Him, He will take care of you. There is nothing in this world that can thwart the plans of God. We might not understand what God is doing, but He promises to take care of us. Therefore, we must trust Him. You can grow in trust by reading the Word of God everyday and praying to Him. When you pray, you take your mind off yourself and place it on the One who has the power to move mountains. Apart from God, you have nothing. But with Him, you have it all!
